The False Magnate

$6.00

A Virtual Soap Opera Sketch Comedy
(Based on a play from the book Commedia Plays by Barry Grantham)

Adaptation By Jamie Van Camp

This is an adaptation of a classic Commedia Dell’Arte sketch for a virtual online performance. A troupe of actors attempt to perform a condensed version of “the false magnate”, a (fictional) classic play. It’s the age-old story of two lovers and a miserly father (Pantalone) who refuses to let them get married since he wants his child to be married to a true magnate, a rich person, very relatable. In order to keep it interesting, they decide to shorten a 2-hour epic into 12 minutes. The show becomes an over-the-top soap opera full of crazy antics and goofball zaniness. Screwball zaniness ensues at a fast pace crashing into a very happy ending.

This performance is presented using Zoom Webinar. Starting one week before their scheduled performance, ticket buyers will be emailed a unique URL links to access the webinar. Do not share this link with others, as each link can only be used on one device.

Performance dates are:
- Friday, April 30th at 7:30pm
- Saturday, May 1st at 7:30pm
- Friday, May 7th at 7:30pm
- Saturday, May 8th at 7:30pm
